I have just qualified from Dunamis with a Counselling Diploma. I feel as if I have been prepared very well for entering the profession, particularly because the course has a very strong experiential element. It gives you the opportunity to really understand how best to be in a room with another person, which is what counselling is primarily about. I was only interested in an academic perspective to the extent that it informed my counselling practice, and on this course there has been a very helpful theoretical input, but not as an end in itself - always with the counselling goal in mind. I'm so pleased to have had an integrative training – in person-centred, Gestalt, and existential approaches. I feel like I have a real opportunity to flexibly create the conditions that clients need for their own growth and development. I am sure I will still have my L plates on for some years, but I now feel confident to step out into the counselling world. Thank you to the Directors, Tutors and last but not least the very patient Administrator at the College 🙂

I want to thank Dunamis for providing such a valuable Creative Humanistic Counselling course. I found the course both challenging and rewarding, providing valuable learning, personal growth, and deeper self-awareness throughout my time. One of the greatest strengths of the course is the expertise and professionalism of the tutors. They are highly knowledgeable, supportive, empathic and encouraging, while maintaining high professional standards. Their commitment to the students and the learning process creates a safe and positive environment in which I have grown and developed as a trainee counsellor. The range of topics covered has been engaging, thought-provoking, and relevant to both personal and professional development. The balance and mix of learning, theory, and practical work throughout the course have helped connect academic understanding with real counselling experience. The opportunity to practise and be observed in skills nearly every week has been invaluable. The experiential days have allowed for deeper exploration, insight, and connection between theory and lived experience. They have also helped build confidence, competence, self-awareness, and reflective practice. Through this process, I have learned the importance of being vulnerable, sharing openly and recognising every person is unique in their own experiences, perspectives and journey. I loved the structure of five terms and found the recommended reading suggestions helpful in extending my knowledge and understanding. Another important part of the journey has been meeting a wonderful group of friends through the process. The connections and support from fellow students have added greatly to the overall experience and created a strong sense of community throughout the training. The course requires dedication, hard work, and commitment, but the high standards are worthwhile. The effort truly pays off for me as a student, helping me become more skilled, reflective, empathic, and capable as a counsellor. Thank you to everyone involved in delivering such a valuable, enriching, and professionally supportive course.I would definitely recommend it.

The diploma was an incredible learning experience both in terms of theory and self development. Sara, Sally and all the dedicated tutors prepare you thoroughly throughout the course. It’s hard work and can challenge you in many ways. But it’s so rewarding and has given me the awareness, the belief and the passion to be the best counsellor I can be.

I’m really glad I chose this counselling college. The training is rigorous and genuinely prepares you to become a competent, ethical practitioner. One of the real strengths is the emphasis on skills practice, with plenty of opportunities to apply what you're learning. The tutor to student ratio is excellent, and the quality of feedback is outstanding: thoughtful, constructive, and grounded in real-world experience. The tutors clearly walk the talk. One challenge is that the breadth of theory covered means you don’t get to go very deep into any one approach. That said, lifelong learning is part of the profession, and it’s expected that you’ll continue to deepen your knowledge beyond the course. The admin side of things could be better. Some systems still rely on actual paper, and communication or paperwork processes could be more streamlined and digitised. Overall, it’s a very solid training experience with dedicated tutors who really care about your development.

This course was challenging and tested my resilience. The experiential approach, combined with personal counselling, fostered deep introspection and encouraged me to question everything I thought I knew about myself. The tutors were knowledgeable, approachable, and provided steadfast support to me and my peers throughout the course and beyond. Dunamis offers a unique experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone aspiring to become a counsellor.

Learning counselling at this level is no easy task - you'll be challenged from every hidden corner of your subconscious. With Dunamis you are in safe, capable hands - a great course which attracts great students. The Level 4 they offer is a thorough experiential course whose syllabus keeps up with the best of other colleges and universities. I'm very grateful to have experienced this part of my studies with them. If you can reach the college (unfortunately a challenge for public transport, but okay if you have a car) it's well worth the trek.

If you want to go on the journey of a lifetime with more twists and turns than a fairground ride this course is for you. My experience has pushed, prodded and pschologically poked me in all directions which has not been easy but I am now a qualified counsellor and a changed person for the better. Highly recommend the Tutors and this college to anyone about to embark on this voyage of discovery.

Life changing course. I've considered studying to be a counsellor for a while. A sudden job loss at just the right time meant I suddenly had the time to do it. This course was recommended to me by someone who had studied under Sara and Sally at a different venue. It did not disappoint. Intense, hard work, emotional, brutal at times. But there's no repair without rupture. Digging deep was a regular occurrence. I'll be honest, it's one of the toughest things I've done. But also one of the most rewarding. Sara, Sally and the rest of the tutors are amazing people. Kind, loving, encouraging. They helped me get over the finish line when there were several times I wanted to walk away. It's also a laugh. There was a lot of laughter. I've made lifetime friends, learnt so much about humans and myself, and two years after signing up, I am a qualified counsellor. I am forever indebted to Dunamis for changing my life and giving me a new career.

I am an experienced counsellor, having started my own counselling journey in 2012. Alongside my private practice I spent 6 years working for a counselling charity where I am now a trustee.
I believe counselling training is one of the most exciting, challenging and fulfilling prospects a person can undertake and I am passionate about experiential learning which enables students to begin to really know themselves as they move towards becoming fully qualified counsellors.

Since qualifying in 2015 I have been working in Private Practice. As an Integrative Therapist I have continued to expand my skillset by also working within charity organisations and engaging in a wide variety of CPD courses. I am a qualified teacher and am accredited by the BACP. I have a particular interest in working with couples and LGBTQ+ issues.
On a personal level, I have always been aware of the great power of communication, learning from a young age the effects of both functional and dysfunctional relationships.  I have also been very fortunate to have had some great counsellors and teachers in my life, who have helped me find and develop my own sense of authenticity.  As a teacher of counselling I strive to impart all that I have learned whilst encouraging my students to find their own unique and genuine selves; so that they can go on to help others in the same way.
